MEET THE MAYOR
The Mayor of Rojales, Antonio Martinez Canovas is holding a public meeting this wednesday the 18th of May in the Municipal Centre, Plaza Blanca, Quesada at 6pm (opposite Goyo's). The meeting will be held in english as well as spanish and is an opportunity for everyone to find out from the man himself why he should be reelected. Everyone is invited and questions will be taken from the floor.
That sounds really interesting, its so good to know that we can be informed in our own language
How long has the mayor been in office, and would local people think that he has done a good job and should be re-elected ?
Does he do a good job? In the Lo Marabu/Dona Pepa areas, on the plot that was supposed to be the Botanical Garden the area is a rubbish dump. If the plot was gated, clean and tidy, this would not happen. The pavement is dangerous with broken slabs. The palm trees have not been pruned and we have rats nesting there. We also have many lamposts not working. I rest my case.
Hi Eileen
this would be a great opportunity to go and meet the mayor and tell him yourself about the problems you are experiencing. He is in office to meet the needs of all residents and while he cant deal with everything at once you do have voice and he should hear this. If he doesnt know about your problem he cant do anything to help you.
Good luck with, im not on quesada at the moment or I would have gladly gone to the meeting, but hey lets make this guy work for his money, maybe someone can find out at the meeting why so may china bazzars are opening up? please post on this site any outcomes from the meeting I would be really gratful to hear about this.
thank you
hi we love it here ,
unfortunately like yourself we are in the UK at the moment. Our community is a member of the "Association of Communities of Lo Marabu and Dona Pepa" and believe me, we have lobbied him and signed petitions but with little result. I only wish I could be there to 'heckle' - except that i might get arrested!
Hi Eileen
in that case we must appeal to someone on this site to be our voice. Is there anyone out there who is prepared to go along to the meeting and be kind enough to provide us with feedback ?
thank you
Hi Eileen, the site which will be the botanical garden is an immense area at the bottom of Lo Marabu, running alonside the main road, the funding for fencing this area has been obtained and should be available shortly, under the Valencian governments Plan Confianza. Very close to this area you will find the Casa Museo 'Carmen Palazón', which is being restored to its former glory and is an example of the excellent work which the Mayor has achieved. Whilst he wishes to satisfy the requests of as many residents as possible, unlike many politicians he is not prepared to borrow money to do this. Some projects will have wait until funding is available.
Hi Bobby the mayor has been in office since June the 16th 2007, and I'm sure that the majority of residents who have been here since before then will be very pleased with progress made by him in these four years.
A few people have asked me where's Goyo's, sorry for those who don't know it's from the arches go past the Don Caarlos, next left and Goyos is on your left and the municipal centre is the very large public building across the square.
Does anyone know how long the meeting will be going on for as I can not get there until 7 ?
Hi All
its great to hear these positive comments about what the mayor has achieved to date and what his future intentions are for the area in the future. Im sure Eileen wil be very pleased with this news
Thanks for your comments re the Botanical Gardens. This project was first announced in the press some 6 years ago and little progress has been made. I hope we don't have to wait as long again for the site to be cleaned up. You didn't comment on our lack of street lighting in your response? For some years now, the "extrañeros" having been paying in more than we have been getting out of the system. It is now time to redress the balance. un saludo Eileen
Hi Eileen, maybe we should open another thread, obviously I like you am an extranjero, what I contribute to the Town Hall is my rates, called I.B.I. collected by Suma, Vehicle tax and any licence fees I might pay such as a small works licence. For one house and one car I pay approximateley 230€ per year. Included in my water rates is a small levy for rubbish collection and sewage which goes to the town hall. My bins are emptied every night the streets are cleaned I have a police prsence, the public buildings are well maintained and in general the services are more than adequate. "For some years now, the "extrañeros" having been paying in more than we have been getting out of the system", your point was?

RELEGATION DOG FIGHT
This Sunday is the last day of the Premiership and with the top places almost all decided the focus and the action centres on the bottom end of the league. What a scrap with 2 out of the 5 teams fighting for their lives to stay up. Who will stay up and who will go down? Have your say!
My prediction is - going down Blackpool, Wigan and West Ham (already down)
